Performance Overview and Key Efficiency Results
Push Power, based in Colchester, designed, installed, and commissioned a bespoke solar PV roof system for Silverstone Race Circuit’s iconic building, "The Wing," in 2022. This project aligns with Silverstone’s ‘Shift to Zero’ sustainability strategy, advancing the venue’s commitment to carbon neutrality and showcasing innovation within the global motorsport industry.
Push Power developed a custom-fit solar PV solution tailored to the unique and complex roof profile of The Wing, which was unsuitable for standard roof-mounting systems. The system is designed to operate at an average efficiency of 98%, ensuring maximum energy capture despite installation challenges.
The bespoke design and installation process were carried out with minimal disruption to Silverstone’s busy schedule of motorsport events, adhering to the highest standards of Health & Safety. Push Power’s engineering team ensured the system was integrated seamlessly with the venue’s operations.
The system generates approximately 800,000 kWh of renewable energy annually, reducing reliance on grid electricity and avoiding an estimated 175 tonnes of CO₂ emissions each year. This offset is equivalent to the annual emissions of 550 Formula 1 cars or over 5500 MotoGP bikes in their respective races. The solar PV system at Silverstone Race Circuit demonstrates long-term operational and financial efficiency. With 98% average operational efficiency and reduced reliance on grid energy, the system represents a cost-effective step towards sustainability while enhancing Silverstone’s brand reputation as an innovator in green energy solutions.
Environmental Impact
The project delivers substantial environmental benefits, significantly contributing to Silverstone’s carbon-neutral ambitions. By implementing renewable energy solutions, the initiative supports broader industry goals for sustainability and sets a benchmark for environmental responsibility in global motorsport.
